Choosing the right dedicated server
1PBPS editorial · General planning guide
Start with the workload
Record what your application needs: CPU time, peak memory use, storage IOPS and bandwidth. A balanced server usually provides more value than a powerful processor paired with insufficient memory.
Compare realistic configurations
Match core counts and clock speed to your software. Latency-sensitive applications may benefit from faster individual cores, while parallel workloads can use more cores. Confirm software licensing and compatibility before committing.
Plan for resilience
Consider redundant storage, off-server backups and a recovery process. Hardware redundancy supports availability, but does not replace a tested backup.
